JUXtalks: "Why do you play for free?" Panel discussion and benefit concert

Find venue info here: whydoyouplayforfree.eventbrite.com

"Why do you play for free?" a panel discussion & benefit concert facilitated by musicians   Is it for the love of it? For the exposure? Because it's expected? Precisely why musicians play for free isn't obvious. Even to musicians themselves.     Join Juxtapositions and F.A.M.E. Fatale for an evening of entertainment and discussion over a gourmet dinner and beverages. We will start the evening with a 1 hour panel discussion followed by a 30 minute Q&A session with the audience. A salon concert will follow featuring the music of San Jose's own Cellista (classical cello set), Lisa Dewey (rock), Tracy Cruz (soul), and Elliot Racine (bassist/composer).

The panel will feature members of the music community and will explore the question: Why do you play for free? A complex question with answers as varied as the musicians of the Bay Area at large.

Learning Objectives: After attending the panel discussion,  attendees will have a better understanding of this complex question. We hope to begin a series of conversations that explore:

The complexities of why musicians play music.  The diversity of music makers (hobbyists, professionals, and that grey area in between) Why it matters to musicians to know why they play for free? and why it matters to the industry
